Many job recruiters requests a letter of application along with a resume. This is a formal way of applying to a job, because employers usually read the application letter before checking the resume. It also signifies your intent that you are serious of applying to the job. So how will you write a good letter of application? A good letter of application includes the following:
- Date
- Name, title, company address
- Salutation
- Main body of the letter
- Closing
- Signature over printed name
You must always remember that the body of your letter must be worth reading. Avoid a long and wordy words. Make it direct to the point. You must also keep in mind the following things, when you write the letter:
- Describe what you can offer to them. Include your skills and how can you will be an asset to the company. This will give a plus factor for your application.
- Write a dynamic introduction, Instead of writing this…”I would like to apply for…”, then write this, “I read with interest the advertisement of your company about..”
- Do not include the phrase “Christian Greetings!” after the salutation. It sounds very religious unless you will apply in a religious institution.
- Make your body to two or three paragraph. Just make it direct to the point. Avoid redundancy and wordy letters.
- Do not copy someone's application letter. I’ve read many application letters that were just copied from someone’s work. It is alright to use it as a guide but to copy the words is not justifiable.
